Glenn Beck Called My Chick-Fil-A Column ‘Just Plain Awful,’ I Think Beck May Be Just Plain Bigoted

Glenn Beck went after me on the radio yesterday. Last night, when I got home, I wrote a fairly strongly-worded response.

You see, I’ve gotten more hate mail over this series of Chick-fil-A columns than anything else I’ve written for this site. And you know why? It’s because I’ve stopped drawing a distinction between anti-gay marriage and anti-gay. And you know why I did that? Because there isn’t one.

The year is 2012 and punches will no longer be pulled. If you still believe that a group of Americans don’t deserve the same legal rights that you do purely because of their minority status, then you are a bigot. Plain and simple. Every single one of you.

Well, I just called Glenn Beck, Mike Huckabee, and half of the Mediaite readership bigots in no uncertain terms. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go avoid Twitter for the next month.

(seriously, I expect this to get ever so slightly ugly. ugh.)

Jon, you are 100% right. 

You can be a religiously principled company and still be “hands off.” You don’t need to invest in bigotry. I once worked at a radio station owned by a Mormon company. They ran pro-Mormon ads at night, but other than that, they were extremely hands off and extremely supportive of the staff. 

I hate that I love Chick-fil-A so much. God, the number of times I had attempted to go there on a Sunday. JUST BE OPEN! That right there should have been my last straw.
