Florence Hype Video for Indie Cage Match
I’m sharing this because I think this video is brilliant. “You do improv? What, do you want to be on SNL or something?” my god THAT RINGS TRUE. If you like/do improv, you will agree with me, and you should go like their hype video here: https://www.facebook.com/events/167305356754345/?fref=ts
Also go to the show! See Hell on Earth and Regional Boxes!

Class 4 - UCB Sketch 201.
Assignment: Something about new Fall TV lineup.
Notes welcome.
Side note: How do I add that reply icon?
For all my improv nerds out there - @willhines went on Hot 97 to talk about why @ciphasounds loves improv. The result was exceptional and hilarious!
Cipha has some great ideas for the diversity program. Apollo theatre? UCB at Apollo theatre? We should all be aiming for that.
It’s also interesting to hear him talk about references - you can get very lost if you don’t know all the white references like “Kerouac.” I always hate being in scenes that are too reference-heavy to worlds I’m not involved in, like video games. But then again, I got an immeasurable amount of joy from watching Secret Man Group perform improv based on The Wire.
UCB Sketch 201 - Class 3. Assignment: Write the first page of two sketches.
Here’s one called “There Is No Santa.” I didn’t search, but this must have been done before…
I also think I write all my sketches on religion, sex or poop.
I couldn’t wait for the UCB Lloyd Page to update
SO I’M NOT GONNA WAIT TO USE TO SCREENSHOT FROM THE WEBSITE TO ANNOUNCE OUR NEW TEAM NAME!

First show with Hoops!
I had a lot of fun, and I am excited to continue performing with this team. Keisha and Caitlin really supported the eff out of me in my beat. Plus we did a beat in which we ran the Harrisburg, PA court system like Game of Thrones just because we loved the show so much. Dream come true.
UCB Maude Audition Advice
I’m writing this post less because I have advice to give and more because I need advice. Googling “maude” “auditions” “UCB” and “advice” has left me wanting.
So, in an attempt to start a conversation, I will share what I know about UCB Maude auditions (in New York).
So what happens during an audition?
Get to the training center at least 15 minutes ahead of time. Bring a head shot with your name and email address on it (I printed my head shot at Rite Aid.) There will be a ton of people sitting around, waiting to be called for their audition. You should check in with an intern. Last year, I was supposed to go at around 4pm, but everything was very delayed by then, so I didn’t really audition until 4:45pm. Hopefully things run smoother this year!
Some people have costumes, props; most do not. Some people went into the stairway and ran their routine a few times.
When you are “on deck” the intern will take you outside the door to the audition room and have you wait. Last year I had to wait outside of Ryan Haney’s audition, which was intimidating, because he appeared to have the UCB judges rolling on the floor in laughter.
I don’t know if I should go too much into my particular audition, since it was obviously unsuccessful. I did only three characters, no impressions, and ended early…. so maybe I won’t do that this round?
Here are some things I personally will try to work on:
- Remain cool and confident at all times.
- Don’t rush it. Make eye contact.
- Choose characters that you think are fun. So even if they aren’t laughing, you’re still having fun.
OK! That’s it! Share what you know, UCBers!
